Afghanistan is a country shaped by decades of instability — and that has produced people of a particular character. For most Afghan labour migrants, working abroad is not simply about earning money. It is a chance to build a stable future. That purpose drives a serious, responsible approach to work and a strong preference for long-term employment over short-term arrangements.
In Ukraine, Afghan migrants are gradually establishing themselves in industries that demand physical endurance and resilience under difficult working conditions.

Where Afghan workers fit best
Road and infrastructure construction
Road surfacing, earthworks, groundwork. Afghan candidates have experience working under extremely demanding conditions — without modern equipment and under heavy physical loads. Ukrainian construction conditions are perceived as significantly more comfortable by comparison.
General construction and auxiliary work
Demolition, clearance, auxiliary site labour, earthworks. Physical strength and stamina are natural characteristics.
Agricultural work
Field operations, farm labour. The majority of Afghans have agricultural backgrounds and are genuinely familiar with land-based work.
Utilities and municipal services
Cleaning, landscaping, building maintenance — stable employment for candidates without specific technical qualifications.
Worker profile
Afghan workers stand out among all labour migrant groups for their inner resilience and genuine respect for work of any kind. The ability to work and persevere in the most demanding conditions is not a learned skill — it is a core character trait.
They are willing to learn new trades, committed to stable long-term employment, and do not leave jobs over minor inconveniences.
Language: Dari and Pashto are the primary languages. Some candidates have basic English. Asia Work provides a coordinator for the first months of workplace adaptation.
Religious note: virtually all Afghan candidates are Muslim. Respect for religious practices and dietary requirements is a baseline condition for stable integration into the workplace.
Document processing
Work Permit and D Visa
The Ukrainian consulate in Afghanistan is not currently operating under standard procedures. D visas for Afghan candidates are processed through a consulate in a third country — typically Pakistan or Uzbekistan. This adds time and requires additional coordination.
Asia Work manages this process in full and maintains up-to-date knowledge of current processing routes for Afghan candidates.
Document verification
For Afghanistan, verification is especially important. Asia Work checks every candidate individually, including identity confirmation and review of any restrictions on entry to Ukraine.
Total timeline
55–75 calendar days, accounting for third-country consular procedures.
Frequently asked questions

Yes. Afghan documentation requires careful review. Asia Work does not file a Work Permit application without completing full identity verification for the candidate.
Which roles are the best fit for Afghan candidates?
Heavy physical work: road construction, earthworks, auxiliary site labour, agriculture. For skilled technical positions, Vietnam or India are more appropriate choices.
What is the minimum group size?
From 5 people. Given the more complex processing logistics, we recommend planning at least 3 months ahead of your target start date.
